Camway Concepts was established in 2012-13. It is a member of the group ‘Jobans’ of which Know How Engineers and Kamway Co-operation are other member organizations. All these companies are established with a common objective of ‘Initiating the Thought Process and Concretizing it’ in the direction of saving of energy and reducing sugar loss (going in waste) in sugar industry.
Camway Concepts have concentrated on reduction of moisture from bagasse generated in the last stage of milling sugar cane in the factory. The content of moisture (approximately 50%) in bagasse leaving the last mill roller results in potential drain of useful thermal energy generated in the boilers producing steam and consequently electric power to run the ‘mill’. Having dwelled on various alternatives to achieve this objective of extraction of moisture, the limitation of space available in the existing set up of sugar mills and simplified method of installation of the system, the final form of ‘’Zenon” moisture extraction System was evolved.
The company has designed and produced the system viz. “Xenioum” to achieve the above objective. The details of “Xenioum” are depicted under the head ‘Products’ in this presentation.
Looking to the process layout of the sugar mill, the only feasible point from which the moisture can be extracted is the chute in which the moist bagasse is discharged from the last Mill before it goes on to the conveyor led to the boiler. The proposed equipment to extract the moisture employs high volume low vacuum (HVLV) phenomenon It will take away a part of moisture (assumed 2 units) and arrest the same by a state-of-the-art condenser converting it into water. This condensed water can be used for recirculation and any application is the mill.
The installation at the site is very simple and Is easily accomplished without may major alteration in the sugar mill set up. S. S. Filters are provided in each of the telescopic tubes which take in the moisture from bagasse falling in to the chute. Pneumatic system is provided for automatic operation of cleaning these filters. These individual filters placed in the telescopic suction tubes can be pulled out periodically from the slots and instantaneously replaced with cleaned spare ones. Another finer mesh filter is provided in the intake manifold to arrest any bagasse which may get extracted with the moisture and escape the filters provided in the telescopic tubes. This finer filter is cleaned manually with a brush by opening the hatch door provided on the manifold and is located outside the unit.
The system “Xenioum” is based on the concept of liquid conditioning. Sugar cane juice and water are main fluids handled in the sugar factory. Fluids have different characteristics; ‘surface tension’ being an important one amongst them defining the penetration and miscibility. Fluids with lower surface tension penetrate better than those with relatively higher surface tension. Normal hot water used for imbibition (addition to bagasse) has certain penetration and miscibility. Same water if treated to reduce the surface tension would have better penetration and miscibility and would be more effective in ‘pulling out’ sucrose from intra-fibrous space of bagasse, thus reducing loss of sucrose (bagasse POL).
The modules are made in cylindrical shape and are in two halves. The halves are placed to cover the diameter of the pipe carrying the fluid to be conditioned. The halves are, then, tied up in such a way that there don’t get loosened in service. There are no moving parts in the ‘Xenioum’ system and hence no wear and tear. However, the modules are to be recharged/reinforced periodically for continued effectiveness.
